Purpose: 

To establish Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) policy and procedure for appropriate use, operation, parking, storage, and reservation of University-owned electric vehicle.

Policy: 

SHCS employees who possess a valid California driver’s license, have completed SHCS Electric Vehicle training, and have approval from their supervisor may use the university electric vehicle while conducting official University business. In accordance with University policy (PPM 350-32, PPM 300-30, UCD Campus Traffic and Parking Code), SHCS leases an electric vehicle from UCD Fleet Services to be used to transport Staff and supplies from Student Health & Wellness Center (SHWC) to various meeting and work locations on campus.  Fleet Services provides license and insurance as part of the monthly lease agreement. Vehicle Operation is included in the department Injury and Illness Prevention Program.

Procedure: 
  1. Use of electric vehicle:
    1. Download the Electric Vehicle Use Authorization Form from the staff website.
    2. Complete the Electric Vehicle HealthStream training. A link for the training course is located on the SHCS Staff website.
    3. Obtain supervisor approval for use of Electric Vehicle.
    4. Complete the Electric Vehicle Use Authorization Form (Attachment 1) and route as directed.
  2. Vehicle operation:
    1. The electric vehicle is reserved on the SHCS calendaring system.
    2. The electric vehicle keys and core campus gate card are located on the third floor of the SH&WC in the Admin reception area.
    3. The central campus parking permit must be displayed when driving the electric vehicle.  This permit is located in the locked glove box and must be placed in the glove box and locked upon return of the vehicle.
    4. The vehicle operator is responsible for payment of any traffic citations, including fines for illegal parking, that are incurred while the operator is in control of the vehicle.
    5. The electric vehicle cannot be operated on bike paths or use crosswalks to cross roadways.  It can be driven up to 25 mph on any road that has speed limit posted up to 35mph.
    6. The vehicle has an EE license, enabling parking in any A, C or E parking place on campus.
    7. The vehicle may be charged at any designated location with an available 110V outlet. A map indicating campus charging locations is stored in the rear storage compartment. Parking is allowed at designated charging locations for a maximum of 4 hours.
    8. The designated storage location for the electric vehicle is on the southwest side of the Student Health and Wellness Center.  Upon its return, the electric vehicle is to be charged at the available 110V outlet.
