Purpose: 

To communicate to appropriate campus staff and faculty the existence of a communicable disease in the student population so preventative and treatment information is initiated in a timely manner for the safety of the campus community.

Policy: 

Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) staff who become aware of a communicable disease (Example: chickenpox, hepatitis A, meningitis, mumps, measles or active tuberculosis) in the student population are to report it to the Medical Director, the Clinic Manager, and Infection Control Nurse.  This applies to student patients with known infection or contacts to active disease. 

Procedure: 
  1. For mandatory California Department of Public Health Confidential Morbidity Report (CMR) requirements, reference SHCS P&P, 140-08 Reporting Diseases to Public Health. For Yolo County Health Department (YCHD) “List of Reportable Diseases”, reference YCHD Web site at : http://www.yolocounty.org/health-human-services/health-department.
  2. Campus exposure risks will be assessed and evaluated by the Medical Director with consultation from YCHD. Campus exposure control, treatment, and management will follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and YCHD recommendations.
  3. The Medical Director, Quality Improvement Manager, Infection Control Nurse or their designee, will report the information to appropriate campus staff, faculty, and departments.
